Lookup Variables

QWAdmin Help Files

A L-lookup type variable is a calculated text field.  It uses a value from another variable as a key to a Popup Selection file to obtain Popup Fields information.

A L-lookup variable does not appear on the Add, Edit, Insert, Copy screens.  Its value is only determined when the Save button is clicked on the Add, Edit, Insert, Copy screens.

Length of Variable - the maximum number of characters.to be displayed on the Log Sheet.

Popup Filename is used to identify from which Popup Selection File you wish to look up information, based on a specific Popup Level to use for this P-popup variable.  Clicking the down arrow will open a list of available Popup Selection Files.

Which Field to Display in Popup - this prompt is used to select from which Popup Fields you require information to be displayed, based on the Popup Selection file and Variable used as Key to Popup file.  Clicking the down arrow will open a list of available Popup Fields for the selected Popup Selection File.

Number of Questions to Ask - this prompt is used to indicate the number of Popup Levels, two digits each, that are required to retrieve the Popup Fields information from the Popup Selection File specified above. QW takes the number of Popup Levels times 2 and then selects that number of digits, starting from the left, from the value of the Variable key to Popup file.  Based on that value, QW retrieves the Popup Fields that matches that key value from the Popup Selection file.  Clicking the down arrow will open a list of available Popup Levels for the corresponding Popup.

Variable Key to Popup File - this prompt is used to identify which QW variable contains the data to be used as the key to the Popup file specified.  A key to a Popup must be numeric therefore the variable selected here must have numeric data in the left most part of the value.  A P-popup variable stores both numeric and text data but the numeric data is at the start or left most part of the value stored so it can be used here.  Another L-lookup variable can also be used as a key if it contains numeric data. Clicking the down arrow will open a list of available variables.
