Transaction logging for a Quality Window application is activated using QWAdmin.
QW stores this data in ASCII comma delimited format that matches the order and format of the variables as defined in QWAdmin. The current value of each variable is stored in this file whether it has changed or not. At the end of each transaction record there is additional information indicating the application template name the data is from, the date and time the activity occurred and the type of transaction (Add, Edit, Delete or Update). Note that if a user changes a record’s Date or Time, you will see a Delete record followed by an Add record in the audit trail.
In QWAdmin:
- Open the Application for which you wish to turn on transaction logging
- Click the Application Settings tab
- Under the Transaction Audit Trail heading enter a fully pathed filename with an extension of .LOG in the Log Filename to Update field
- Save the application
Viewing the Transaction Log In Quality Window
- Open the application
- Select Macros / Display Audit Trail
Note: Items listed in the Transaction Log window are constrained by the current Filter settings for this View.
By default, the Display Audit Trail will use each record’s Date and Time values in order to visualize the changes. This means that if you have more than one record with the exact same date and time, the viewer will think that all of the changes are for the same record. A much better approach would be to turn on the AutoNumber feature for a template, in which case the viewer will use each record’s unique autonumber value as its index to changes.
